Sycamore Networks' Intelligent Optical Switching Systems Complete Joint Interoperability Test Command Assessment
|
Chelmsford, Mass. - Sycamore Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCMR), a leader in intelligent optical networking, today announced that the company's entire portfolio of edge-to-core optical switching products and network management system have successfully completed an interoperability and performance assessment by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC).
During an independent evaluation process that spanned several months, Sycamore's SN 16000 and SN 3000 intelligent optical switching platforms and SILVX® Network Management System successfully completed an extensive regimen of standards conformance, systems performance, and multi-vendor interoperability testing. JITC's assessment goal is to ensure that leading edge technology is introduced into the DOD networking environment, providing maximum benefit and minimum risk. During the JITC assessment, Sycamore products successfully demonstrated the ability to interoperate with Layer 2 and 3 devices on the client side of the network with data rates ranging from OC-3/STM-1 to OC 192/STM-64 and Gigabit Ethernet (GigE). Other capabilities assessed included both traditional and advanced protection mechanisms, such as 2-fiber and 4-fiber Bi-directional Line Switched Ring (BLSR)/Multiplex Section Shared Protection Ring (MS-SPRing), and advanced mesh restoration. JITC also tested advanced service provisioning, including Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) and Sycamore's ability to provision virtually concatenated GigE circuits. "Sycamore's switches continue to set the performance standard for advanced networking capabilities, including port-by-port support for diverse protection options, advanced control plane standards, and a wide range of service interfaces," said Kevin Oye, vice president of systems and technology at Sycamore. "The JITC assessment confirms our capabilities in these areas, and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to multi-vendor interoperability." About Joint Interoperability Test Command As designated by the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) is DOD's Joint Interoperability Certifier and serves as DISA's Operational Test Agency (OTA). JITC is also a Major Range and Test Facility Base (MRTFB), allowing them to extend their test resources and certification processes directly to other federal government agencies, the private sector, and the nation's allies. Through the DoD Conformance and Interoperability Testing Program, JITC is ensuring that leading edge technology can be introduced into the DOD networking environment, providing maximum benefit and minimum risk.
