Chelmsford, Mass. - Sycamore Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCMR), a leader in intelligent bandwidth management solutions for fixed line and mobile network operators worldwide, today introduced SilvxManager for Windows and Layered Services Management features to augment its recently introduced SN 9000 Intelligent Multiservice Switch. Designed to help network operators reduce costs and complexity, these innovative new offerings enhance management of diverse services and improve overall operational efficiencies in metro and regional multiservice networks.
Both SilvxManager for Windows and Layered Services Management leverage Sycamore's embedded ASON/GMPLS control plane intelligence and distributed network awareness for automated end-to-end service provisioning and enhanced performance management. Highlights of these offerings are summarized below: SilvxManager for Windows A Windows-based platform for Sycamore's carrier-class SILVX® network and performance management system, SilvxManager for Windows delivers cost-effective service management for multiservice metro and regional networks while maintaining the full suite of SILVX management features proven in Tier 1 networks around the world. With the introduction of SilvxManager for Windows, Sycamore now provides customers with flexible system support for UNIX or Windows environments. SilvxManager for Windows, which includes enhanced security features and a simple to use graphical user interface, interoperates seamlessly with other UNIX-based SILVX networks and existing OSS systems. Layered Services Management Sycamore's Layered Services Management is a unique set of SILVX-based operational tools specifically designed to address the challenges of managing the increasingly diverse and complex mix of circuit and packet services in metro and regional networks. Empowered by intelligent multi-layer service correlation software, Layered Services Management tools allow network operators to mask the complexity of the infrastructure and simplify service views, resulting in improved service management and increased operational efficiencies. Multi-layer services include Ethernet and optical, as well as low-order and high-order services. With the ability to translate complex data into proactive and usable information – independent of topology – Layered Services Management provides logical service partitioning and multi-layer resource management within a single, easy-to-use platform. "These new offerings reflect Sycamore's continued focus on delivering carrier-class solutions that help our customers simplify the provisioning and management of services, while optimizing networks for scalability, reliability, and circuit-to-packet convergence," said Jim Mooney, vice president of product management and marketing. "The complexity of service management is particularly acute in metro and regional networks, environments where SilvxManager for Windows and Layered Services Management can offer operators compelling benefits as their networks evolve to support a diverse mix of traffic." Together, SilvxManager for Windows and Layered Services Management increase operational efficiencies and simplify service management with advanced capabilities that include:
