S-DNX High-Capacity Cross-Connect Platform
Offering a Seamless, High-End DNX Growth Path
Introduction
As access networks gradually evolve to support multiple services over converged infrastructure, many network operators have benefited by moving traffic concentration and grooming closer to the access edge. And they need cost-effective ways to expand upon this successful strategy for existing and new installations.
S-DNX adds significant (4x) scalability to the industry-leading DNX family of narrowband cross-connect systems, allowing network operators to immediately deploy or grow into much larger DNX-based networks. S-DNX allows customers to follow a pay-as-you-grow strategy for network build-outs, while preserving prior investments in DNX platforms.

S-DNX in Service Platform Concentration Role
Product Highlights
Increased Capacity – supports up to 2304 E1 ports, 2688 T1 ports, 128 E3 ports, 96 T3 or STS-1 ports, 32 OC-3/STM-1 ports, or 2560 Data/Voice ports, expanding the overall port and switch fabric capacity by a factor of four compared to DNX-88 systems.
Investment Protection – leverages existing investments in DNX platforms and modules. Operators can add new S-DNX systems to existing DNX-11/88 based networks without disrupting existing infrastructure, and upgrade existing DNX-88 systems to S-DNX.
Flexible Growth Options – allows granular growth as the network evolves. By adding groups of S-DNX switching and I/O module resources on an as-needed basis, network operators maintain maximum control over how and when to make infrastructure investments.
Optional CPX Module Set – industry-first integration of circuit/packet functions on a carrier-grade cross-connect supports a seamless transition from TDM to IP technology in fixed line and mobile networks.
Resiliency – offers several layers of protection for designing resiliency and availability into S-DNX based transport networks. Capabilities include redundant control, switching, and power circuitry, device-level protection, Automatic Protection Switching (APS) for facility link protection, automatic re-routing of traffic to alternate paths in the event of primary path failures (path protection), and even site protection (disaster recovery) options.
System Management – benefits fully from the advanced capabilities of the ENvision Plus NMS. ENvision Plus works with the S-DNX to simplify connection provisioning, improve network resiliency via automated path protection and site protection, streamline event and alarm management processes, and provide visual test access and line diagnostics. Other capabilities include multi-level topology views and bandwidth reporting utilities for low-level management of the distributed switch fabric.
