Multi-Layered Protection for Utility Telecom Networks
Implementing multiple protection methods (hardware, link, path, and site) at Layer 1 achieves greater network security and reliability. Here, the hardware protection is N +1 protection switching on the DNX-11/88 Cross-Connects. A back-up microwave facility between hub stations B and C provides APS link protection. Path protection is illustrated by the alternate path (A1-B-C) that becomes active in the event of a primary path (A1-C) failure. Finally, site protection involves automatically moving traffic to the backup operations site at A2, via the orange backup links connected at hub stations B and C.
